Dana Delany AOL Chat - 09/25/2002

Two-time Emmy winner Dana Delany joined AOL Live to chat about her new series, 'Presidio Med.' She answered questions about the show, the cast, her past and upcoming projects and more. See what she had to say below!

AOLiveMC7:  Good evening, everyone, and good evening, Dana Delaney! How are you this evening?

Dana Delany:  I'm doing great!

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, can you tell us what ‘Presidio Med’ is all about?

Dana Delany:  It's about a medical practice in San Francisco that's run by five women doctors, and it's about the hospital and their personal lives.

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, here is our first audience question:

Question:  Have you missed series TV since ‘China Beach’ went off the air?

Dana Delany:  I didn't miss the hours, but I did ‘Pasadena’ last year on Fox and I remembered how much I liked doing a series. I like the family feeling and the chance to develop a character.

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, can you tell us a bit about Dr. Rae Brennan, your character on 'Presidio Med'?

Dana Delany:  Rae is an oncologist. She's very serious about her work, which deals with life and death situations. But in her personal life, she's quite adventurous. Every year she does Doctors Without Borders around the world, and every year she has an affair with a Greek doctor, played by Oded Fehr, and she's also married.

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, here is our next question:

Question:  What makes this medical show different from all the other ones out there? And we all know there's been and still is a bunch!

Dana Delany:  I think the female perspective makes it different. These are five really strong, intelligent women. Also, we'll delve more into the personal lives of the doctors.

AOLiveMC7:  Here is a question from AOL member JJOpus:

Question:  Dana, is there any chance of a crossover episode with ‘CSI’ so that you could work with Marg Helgenberger again?

Dana Delany:  Maybe Marg will need an oncologist. Maybe she'll be dying of cancer, LOL! Just kidding! How about a crossover with Kim Delaney on ‘Miami CSI’?

AOLiveMC7:  Now that would be fun, Dana! Mountainangel2 wants to know:

Question:  What is the most challenging part of this role for you?

Dana Delany:  The most challenging part is having to be serious all the time. I like to have more fun.

AOLiveMC7:  Bttrflykisses89 wants to know:

Question:  Who do you think inspired you to start acting?

Dana Delany:  I think I started acting to get attention from my parents. But my favorite actress growing up was Gloria Grahame.

AOLiveMC7:  Here is our next question:

Question:  Dana, what is your biggest fear?

Dana Delany:  That's a good question! My biggest fear is not facing my fears. I'm very big on looking fear in the eye.

AOLiveMC7:  Good138 asks:

Question:  Where are you from, Dana?

Dana Delany:  I was raised in Stamford, Conn., and also Charlottesville, Va.

AOLiveMC7:  Rubyglass32 wants to know:

Question:  Hi, Dana. Which do you like more, doing TV or films?

Dana Delany:  I don't care, as long as the writing is good. My favorite roles have been on television.

AOLiveMC7:  Wild shorti asks:

Question:  How did you become discovered? Also, you are very beautiful.

Dana Delany:  Thank you, Wild shorti. How did you get that name? My first paying job was the soap opera ‘Love of Life,’ which I auditioned for.

AOLiveMC7:  Here is our next question:

Question:  What is the one gift you have always wanted but you never received?

Dana Delany:  I gift myself. I have everything I need. And if I don't have it, I get it.

AOLiveMC7:  Chiligula asks:

Question:  Dana, you were wonderful in ‘Tombstone.’ How did you feel about your role and the history that some of the movie was based on?

Dana Delany:  I loved playing Josephine Marcus Earp. The writer, Kevin Jarre, was very particular about the authenticity of the details. I love doing westerns.

AOLiveMC7:  Is there another western in your future?

Dana Delany:  I hope so. They say that westerns don't make money anymore, but I don't believe that.

AOLiveMC7:  Nic123holas wants to know:

Question:  Do you like to dance?

Dana Delany:  I love to dance. I can never find enough men who love to dance.

AOLiveMC7:  Oh, I bet we have a few in the audience who would love to dance with you!

Dana Delany:  LOL!

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, TessyNieva has this question:

Dana Delany:  I hope to dance at my wedding soon.

Question:  Are you married and/or have a family?

Dana Delany:  I've never been married, but I want to be by 2004.

AOLiveMC7:  Is there anyone in particular that you'd like to marry, Dana?

Dana Delany:  Not at the moment.

AOLiveMC7:  HannaPruuli asks:

Question:  What kind of audience is this show going after?

Dana Delany:  I think we're trying to have something for everyone, but it definitely seems to be skewed more towards women. But I hope that men like to see hot chicks of all ages.

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, do you have any feedback on the response to the episode last night?

Dana Delany:  We won our time slot, which is a good thing. Tonight will be harder, because we're up against the premiere of ‘West Wing,’ which, ironically, is also produced by John Wells.

AOLiveMC7:  This question is from Mlcwriter2:

Question:  What was your favorite Gloria Grahame movie?

Dana Delany:  ‘In a Lonely Place’ and ‘The Big Heat.’

AOLiveMC7:  GBStarToBe asks:

Question:  Do fans know who you are in the street? What is that like?

Dana Delany:  I rarely get recognized, because I never wear make-up, or else they're too polite to say anything. But when someone does recognize me, they're extremely nice.

AOLiveMC7:  Capnhowdy78 wants to know:

Question:  What do you do in your spare time?

Dana Delany:  I like to read mysteries. I'm really into Dennis Lehane novels lately. I like to travel. And I do yoga regularly.

AOLiveMC7:  What is your favorite place to travel?

Dana Delany:  I like Asia very much. I like South America, I like Europe. I'm saving Venice for my honeymoon, and I still want to go to India.

AOLiveMC7:  How romantic, Venice for your honeymoon! HarryP4Life88 has this question:

Question:  Do you really know the medical terminology you use on ‘Presidio Med’ or do you have to remember them?

Dana Delany:  The medical words, for whatever reason, come easily to me. I have a medical dictionary which I love to read, because you discover really grotesque things.

AOLiveMC7:  Wow, you read medical dictionaries? LatonBro has this question for you:

Question:  How can your fans get a picture of you?

Dana Delany:  LOL. I like the pictures. Also, it's good for crossword puzzles.

Dana Delany:  Write to Warner Bros. Television.

AOLiveMC7:  KRYSSi qUEEN asks:

AOLiveMC7:  WERK004 has this comment about a friend:

Question:  Hi, one of my friends is a huge fan. He is at work right now. He asked me to say hi. His name is Don. I think he wants to marry you. :~) I don't think he can dance.

Dana Delany:  LOL! Dancing's not a full requirement -- he can learn!

AOLiveMC7:  So, WERK004, teach your friend how to dance :) Szqriechard has an interesting question:

Question:  What do you see yourself doing 20 years from now?

Dana Delany:  I hope to still be acting and directing and producing.

AOLiveMC7:  GBStarToBe would like your help and asks this question:

Question:  Hey, Dana, I am scared stiff at auditions. Any pointers? (I really look up to you -- you don't know how much this means to me!)

Dana Delany:  Trust your instincts and do it for yourself, no one else. It doesn't matter whether you get the job or not.

AOLiveMC7:  Dana, here is our next question:

Question:  Were you approached to do ‘Presidio Med,’ or did you go after the role?

Dana Delany:  The role was written with me in mind by Lydia Woodward, who was a writer on ‘China Beach.’

AOLiveMC7:  Downsurf asks you:

Question:  Have you checked out the fan sites for your new show? The fans have one already set up -- it's http://www.presidiomed.net.

Dana Delany:  Yes, I have checked it out, and also I read messages left at danadelany.com.

AOLiveMC7:  Our next question is:

Dana Delany:  Every role is challenging in its own way.

AOLiveMC7:  JHD1683 asks:

Question:  Where would you be if you were not in show business?

Dana Delany:  I'd probably be living on some tropical island, scuba diving and catching fish.

AOLiveMC7:  Oh, that sounds wonderful! Here is our final question for this evening, Dana. Tayanbb wants to know:

Question:  What is your favorite thing about being a redhead?

Dana Delany:  Well, since I chose to be a redhead, I think that there's a certain mystery and sassiness to redheads. And I also have a redhead's temper.

Dana Delany:  And a special congratulations to Julianne and Dave, who met on my Web site.

AOLiveMC7:  Oh, we must ask you about that the next time! Good night, Dana!
